The Plitvice Lakes – self-catering in Croatia
Undoubtedly one of Croatia’s most popular and recognisable attractions, the Plitvice Lakes are a magical paradise of waterfalls and lakes. The 16 lakes which make up the national park are interconnected by a series of stunning waterfalls, the largest of which is 70 metres tall. Visit the park – which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 – from villas in Croatia and discover a vast wilderness which still harbours beasts of the forest such as bears and wolves. Don’t fear however, the park is very safe and makes an effort to be as child friendly as possible. With a long history dating back to Roman times, the geographical position of the city, connecting the Adriatic with central-south-eastern Europe, has led it to play an important role in the region.
