If you are on holiday north in Sogn og Fjordane, you will surely come to Nordfjord, the northernmost of the county's three regions. Here you will be greeted by majestic mountains, deep lakes, long fjords and stunning glaciers whilst self-catering Norway. In other words, there is a world of incredible sights and adventure for those who appreciate the unspoilt natural beauty of the Scandinavian wilderness.
If you rent a cabin in Nordfjord you will be close to all the great nature experiences. NOVASOL has rented cabins in Nordfjord and other parts of Sogn og Fjordane for a number of years, and each and everyone of our self-catering holiday homes has been carefully hand-picked and offers its very own unique charm.Â
Stunning natural surroundings to explore whilst self-catering Norway
Western Norway is wild and beautiful, and the Nordfjord region is no exception. Here you will find between Jostedalsbreen, the largest continental shelf on the continent, located in Stryn. You are also close to beautiful Loen which, with its wild nature and exciting attractions, attracts visitors from all over the world.
The Fjord itself is the sixth longest in Norway, and the northernmost of the three great fjords in the county. It extends from HusevÃ¥g Island west to Loen in the centre. Norway's westernmost mountain plateau Vestkapp is located at the outermost town of the Selje municipality. Whilst self-catering Norway you will also find white sandy beaches such as those in Hoddevik and Ervik which, among other things, are very popular with surfers. In Bremanger municipality is the mighty Hornelen, Northern Europe's largest sea cliff.Â
Attractions
In Nordfjord, like many other places in Western Norway, the most popular attractions are often closely linked to the magnificent nature that the country is so well-known for. Via Ferrata Loen is a spectacular mountain climbing and suspension bridge crossing, and in 2017, the Loen Skylift shuttle bus was opened, which safely transports you to and from the fjord in Loen and the Hoven River at 1011m above sea level. This really is the ideal place to spend your self-catering Norway holiday if you enjoy being surrounded by natural beauty and being active outdoors.
A little further north lies Selja Kloster with its ruins and monastery tower still intact. This is possibly Norway's oldest monastery. Another special tower is Skålatårnet which stands on the top of Skåla Mountain. The trip up to the tower is very popular and gives you the opportunity to enjoy a stunning panoramic view.
Places to visit
Måløy is the only city in the region. Together with Nordfjordeid, Sandane and Stryn, it is the region's most populated town and offers a variety of shops and restaurants. But Nordfjord is well-known for its smaller towns as for the larger ones, with delightful towns such as Olden, Loen and Hjelle at the top, which, with adventurous natural surroundings and rich Norwegian history, will take you on a journey back in time. There are so many things to see and do in the region but we always recommend asking the locals for tips or for their favourite attractions and experiences to find the hidden gems.
In other words, if you decide to spend your holidays in Nordfjord, you can look forward to experiencing magnificent scenery, charming villages and a rich culture. Browse out full range of holidays homes, apartments and cabins online today or call our customer service team.
