The attractive city of Bari is the capital of the Apulia region and a wonderful location for unique cottages. Thanks to its excellent location by the sea, the region has also been inhabited for four thousand years, giving Bari a rich historical heritage, as well as a modern vibe. Read more about the history of the city whilst you rent villas in Italy, which in the third century BC was colonised by Greeks and later belonged to the Roman Empire. The Museo Archeologico Nazionale at Piazza Umberto in the new city of Bari houses an impressive picture of the development of the region, which will no doubt be of interest when you rent holiday villas in Italy.
Bari has one of the largest ferry ports of the Adriatic, giving your direct holiday homes with regular connections all over the coast and also to other countries, for example to Dubrovnik in Croatia. Observe from the terrace of your Italian country cottages the numerous cruise ships calling at Bari, or take a cruise up the coast yourself, finding yourself in other incredible regions, like Tuscany for instance with Tuscany villas. If this is too large an excursion, simply use Bari as a base to see the sights of Puglia. The Trulli, Matera and various churches and impressive buildings await!
Under Frederick II, Bari experienced its heyday in the 13th century. Whilst staying at villas in Italy, you can take the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the Holy Roman Emperor and King, who spent 28 of his 39 years of rule in southern Italy. The monument in the green area of Giardini Isabella d'Aragona at Castello Svevo recalls this legacy, whilst the ‘Swabian Castle’ in the formerly Byzantine town centre, was rebuilt under Frederick II. Also worth seeing from your Italian country cottages is the 12 century Cathedral of San Sabino and the Basilica of San Nicola with the bishop's chair of Elias of from the year 1098.
Italians love their traditional celebrations and events, so whether you are renting Tuscany apartments or villas in Rome, you will be sure to stumble across some kind of cultural festivity. Bari’s big event is the Festa di San Nicola from 7th to 9th of May. Each year, thousands gather at the tomb of St. Nicola, where there are parades, fireworks and performances. Enjoy your stay at our villas with pools, apartments and pet friendly cottages!
