Merano’s status as a fashionable spa town is secured with a range of spa facilities – some housed in interesting buildings. In the heart of the city lies a 50,000 square metre park with a modern thermal bath right at the crux of it. Merano has Europe's largest racecourse and if you fancy a go, the most important races are the Haflinger Horse riding on Easter Monday and the ‘Grand Prix of Meran’, an obstacle race on the last Sunday in September. In July, the Festival of Jazz takes place, a great Italian cultural offering, which should not be missed whilst self-catering Italy. The Merano Music Festival also takes place in late August to late September and is popular amongst music fans everywhere. Be sure not to miss the famous Merano promenades, either, where you can pass along the river on a relaxing stroll.
Merano is set in a basin and surrounded by the high mountains of the Texel Group. The mountain protects the town from cold winds and rain, making a lovely climate for your holiday lettings in Italy.To the east of the city set on twelve hectares, are the ‘gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle’. Visit the Botanical Garden, where there are natural landscapes and botanical rarities. The castle is a museum and this makes a great outing from your Italian country cottages.
