Art and History to discover from your holiday accommodation in Sweden
Halmstad with its 55,000 inhabitants is the capital and administrative centre of the province Halland. A landmark of the city is the castle from the 16th century, which was built by the Danish King Christian IV, but shortly thereafter with the entire region was handed over to Sweden. Since then, the castle has served as the seat of the provincial government, but today parts of it can also be visited by tourists and is perfect if you want to get to know the Swedish history during your holiday. Right in front of the castle anchors the sailing ship of Najaden, which dates from the 19th century, today serves as a museum ship and houses a charming cafe.
Another historical monument is the medieval church of Halmstad, called the church of St. Nikolai. To this day, it is unclear exactly when the church was built, because it has been so often rebuilt and restored since its first construction. The church stands on Störa Torg, Halmstad's main market square, surrounded by beautiful buildings and decorated with a famous fountain by Carl Minnes and is definitely well-worth a visit during your holiday in our holiday accommodation in Sweden.
