Torrox is a charming village situated 4km inland from its coastal counterpart, Torrox Costa, and it makes the perfect destination for a relaxed holiday in the sun. Torrox Costa, just east of Malaga, is famous far and wide for its mile long, wide, bathing beaches on the sunny coast of this lovely country. The lively seaside strip draws visitors in, making nearby Torrox a popular destination for Costa del Sol villas. The town lies well-sheltered here by the mountains, which guarantees a unique climate. With a brilliant choice of Spanish villas in this area, NOVASOL are a sensible bet to find the holiday accommodation of your dreams.
Torrox played a pivotal role in the historical Moorish period because of the booming silk trade between Granada and places like Baghdad and Damascus. There was once a Moorish castle above the village, but you will not be able to visit from villas in Spain as it was unfortunately destroyed in a siege and subsequent earthquakes. Torrox Costa is also rich in earlier history, with the archaeological site of a Roman necropolis open to the public. Architectural enthusiasts will enjoy the plethora of 16th century churches and the 18th century hospital building.
With the fantastic weather of the Costa del Sol, it is unsurprising that Torrox, and its coastal sibling Torrox Costa, are favourite destinations for beach holidays. The blue flag beach of El Peñoncillo lines the seafront of Torrox Costa and offers plenty of water sports and activities such as windsurfing and paddle boating. Beside the beach there and shops, bars and restaurants, providing everything you could need for an afternoon in the sun. With the flexibility of NOVASOL’s villas and apartments in Spain, you can spend your self-catering holidays as you please, spending as much time by the sea, in the pool or exploring the area as you desire.
The most traditional dish you will find in Torrox is ‘migas’. These are a regional specialty of breadcrumbed and fried morsels served with fresh seafood or green peppers and chorizo. Moreover, the Malaga district is just waiting to be explored, with its many different gastronomic traditions and cultures. Wine, olives, citrus fruit and sugar are all cultivated here, so get yourself down to one of the local markets and take some ingredients back to your Spanish villa. The big cities of Granada, Seville and Cordoba all lie within a couple of hour's drive from Torrox and are also absolutely worth a visit.
